I just saw a cardboard testimonies video made by a church, and was pretty wowed. There are all kinds of stories told by these simple signs, and honestly it’s not a surprise that God is able to do this stuff. However, it was just so moving to see these people get up and testify that in the deep, deep pains of life, they have experienced God’s faithfulness and His personal love for them. Some of these people are still in the middle of their circumstances; you’ll see mixed testimonies here. An older couple had no children, but adopted a son; another couple lost their daughter. Unwanted children found a home with a special woman; another family lost their sister. One man was healed of cancer; another is trusting God in the middle of his ordeal with cancer, no matter the outcome. Life is tough, full of distress, but God is faithful. (By the way, that’s actually the title of a book by Sheila Walsh; I ran across an interview with her and was touched so I looked up more; has anybody ever read any of her books? If so, what did you think?)

Christ’s grace invades all of these circumstances, and these folks got up and testified before thousands. Every testimony is different, but they all had the same message, watermarked by the song “How He Loves Us”: “God was enough for me; He’s enough for you, too.” I hope stories like these sink deep into our hearts, and that when we come through our trials and our valleys, we can join the cloud of witnesses and cheer on our brethren who are next in line. May God add to this body more and more souls, who can experience His unfailing love in the midst of a world whose love has grown cold. Yes, there will be a cup of suffering, but His will is not hindered, and His words will be fulfilled. Wherever we are, I pray we can raise up our banners before men and say, “His banner over me is His great love. His love, His love, His love.”

There are circumstances in life where God calls us to do something or go somewhere, and we move forward in obedience, and then the unexpected occurs. We are faced with a fiery trial out of our control, and we wonder what’s up. But then God speaks and shows us that He still has a plan, that He works even the worst out for a greater end. It’s just what God does with disaster! It seems I’ve been coming across these kinds of stories a lot, Richard Wurmbrand, Russell Stendal, and this man who faced an extremely dark circumstance in Iran. Yet God showed him His greater plan! Check it out!

Whew! I made it for this week’s Inspiring Story, hosted by Miss Szymanski at In Defense of the Christian Faith! This week it is a video about a World War II soldier, who through unbelievable circumstances turned around and became a missionary to the nation whose government oppressed him. But there’s more! Check it out, be challenged and encouraged!

While this story is incredible, it is not exactly applicable and practical to us ordinary folk; that is, we are not soldiers in a big world war, missionaries overseas who see our persecutors come to Jesus. BUT, all of us with the Spirit of God in us can love. Scripture says that love is more important than faith, hope, speaking in tongues, prophesying, and knowledge. And all of us can do it! If the Spirit of God is in us, we do love, but we must increase in it, so that it does not grow cold and our light be removed from us. (see Revelation 2:1-7)

Pray for the strength and the grace to love, pray that you will love the brethren, pray that you will love people in need of it, pray that you will love people even if you are not loved back, pray that you will love the lost, the downtrodden. Pray God will open your eyes as to where your love needs to increase. It will be worth it! Whether or not you see the fruits of your labor, it will be worth it because love is of God, and love lasts forever. So look at this story and be equipped and encouraged!

This week I would like to share two stories of healing and forgiveness that come from Africa.

The first is from two Rwandan men who were reconciled by the love of Christ after one had killed members of the other’s family.

The second is the journey of one Lost Boy coming out of the civil war in Sudan. He once was separated from his family, but following his arrival in the U.S., he had the opportunity to go back and meet them again!

Yay! I got to get my Inspiring Story up on time; early in fact! I’m stoked! And I wasn’t sure I would be able to! Today one of my schoolwork sessions was over 4 1/2 hours straight (I don’t do that very often with bookwork!); I guess I must’ve been concentrating! To specify, it was 4 1/2 hours including over 110 pages of reading in one sitting. Yeeesss, aren’t you so proud of me? BTW, that moth has been on my lamp shade for over two weeks. Is it dead or something? Hey! Maybe I could sell it to a museum and make some money! Maybe it’s a long-lost transitional form or something; MAYBE!!! (Why am I so giddy? I didn’t even have coffee today…)

Okay. Ehem. Back to the serious subject matter. Actually, what I have to share this week really is serious, sobering, jaw-dropping! Yes! Read on, faithful followers!

This is a video of the testimony of a girl who hydroplaned while driving around a curve, who suffered incredible injuries, and of her miraculous recovery. Watch it, and take note of it, cuz I have something to say at the end.

What I have to say is that I know somebody who hydroplaned while driving around a difficult turn during a bad rain storm. Her little car fell into a ditch and landed UPSIDE DOWN. Damage done: the windows (not the windshield) broke, and the roof dented. She literally walked out of the car unscathed. She was perfectly functional, able to call home, and thankfully, there were people around who gave her shelter and help. They told her, “You do realize you should not be walking away from this?”

I personally know a living, walking miracle! I knew that when it happened, but after seeing what happened to somebody else in the same circumstance who suffered, but still walked through a miracle, I am even more in utter and complete awe! Thank you God, for keeping her safe!!!!

Reminds me of Psalm 112, which was made into a song!

PRAISE the LORD! Blessed is the man who fears the LORD, Who delights greatly in His commandments
Surely he will never be shaken; The righteous will be in everlasting remembrance.

Compassion International has taken on the challenge to train up godly leaders in some of the poorest and most corrupt nations. Children sponsored through Compassion are given the chance to enter the Leadership Development Program, to receive higher education based on a Christian worldview. The cool thing is, the kids who enter come out of extreme poverty, and they would not have otherwise even had a chance at higher education if it weren’t for their sponsors. Today, I would like to share two stories of children who have risen out of poverty to become strong leaders who reach out to others with the love of Christ. And this was all made possible by the giving of their sponsors.

As a child growing up near Kampala, Uganda, all Harriet Mutumba Nantumbwe knew was a world where nobody had enough to eat, where children were abused and abandoned. But when 10-year-old Harriet entered the Compassion program, it introduced her to the concept of justice. She experienced life without starvation. And she discovered adults who helped little ones, not hurt them.

Determined to stand up for children, she applied for Compassion’s Leadership Development Program in her senior year of high school. She knew that the God who had given her this dream would also provide a way to fulfill it.

It came through her acceptance into the Leadership Development Program and entrance into a prestigious law school in Uganda. Her sponsor prayed for her as she studied for and passed the bar exam. With her law degree, Harriet now investigates complaints of family abuse with the Uganda Human Rights Commission. And as an LDP graduate, she is finally able to bring justice to the children of Uganda.

“My parents could not afford to sponsor me at the university. I wondered if I should give up my dream. But my LDP sponsors changed all of that. They changed my life. Now, (as a lawyer) I plan to advocate for children out there who cannot speak for themselves.”

Moises Gonzales has made up his mind. He will become a doctor. But he doesn’t want to be a doctor for the prestige or money. “I want to become a doctor so I can talk to my patients about God,” says Moises. “One of my goals is to have a clinic, and I believe God will give that to me!”

Growing up in Santa Rosa de Copan, Honduras, Moises dreamed of reaching his poverty-stricken community with the hope of Jesus Christ. And the Leadership Development Program, which he enrolled in last year, equips him for just that. “Compassion had a very special impact on my life,” Moises says. “It was through Compassion that I met and trusted Jesus.” He looks forward to the day he graduates because then he will be able to help people in his community heal—physically and spiritually.

“My favorite verse is James 1;12: ‘Blessed is the man who perseveres under trail, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.’ This verse gives me strength and courage!”

Story courtesty Compassion International: TEN

Another example of a person who came out of poverty through Compassion is Richard Wandera, who I posted about previously here.

Finally, I am again participating in Miss Szymanski’s Inspiring Story meme. But at this point our host has changed some things a little bit; we will be doing it bi-weekly and she will be hosting a link party. Check out her blog for all the details!

This week, I couldn’t help but share this video of speaker Mark Cahill delivering his message “Lukewarm No More.” In this message, he also shares multiple stories that are just incredible! Mark Cahill is the most DYNAMIC speaker I have ever heard, and the most challenging. He is an evangelist, but not your typical big banners and auditoriums kind of evangelist. He speaks one-to-one with average people he comes in contact with, but he first prays for guidance to not miss divine appointments. The stories are… just incredible. Listen to his message. He even mentions the Back to Jerusalem movement that I learned about through Brother Yun!

Funny thing; I thought that for week 4 of Renee’s Something Beautiful I would share about our kitchen. But my Mom posted that to satisfy your curiosity, so I am going to share one of my musings; but it’s not the musing that’s beautiful. Wait and see!

I recently read through Kathryn Kuhlman’s book God Can Do It Again again, for the I-don’t-remember-how-many-times-I’ve-read-this-same-book-overth time.

One of the testimonies included comes from a couple whose two little boys had drowned. They were both Catholics, but the Catholic church offered no hope. The wife had been listening to Kathryn Kuhlman on the radio and had been seeking God and deciding to trust in His Word, so though she sorrowed, she experienced supernatural strength. The husband, however, totally broke down in sorrow, and everyone was afraid for him. But he decided he would do whatever it took to see his boys again. He believed that because they were so innocent, they must be in a better place, with God. So he went to every mass at the Catholic Church, and did everything he thought he had to do to get to where his boys were. But still, he was horribly depressed and sick. One day, his local mailman, who was aware of his difficulty, asked the man how he was doing. Obviously, the man wasn’t so well. So the mailman asked him, “Are you trusting in the Lord?” The man was slightly confused by the question. “Yes,” he responded, “I’m closely related with the church.” The mailman shook his head, “I didn’t say the church; I asked if you were trusting Jesus.” The man was stunned, talked to his wife, and resolved to find out more about Jesus. The couple had sought help from both Catholic and Protestant ministers, but none of them ever told them that they needed to seek Jesus Christ. At a Kathryn Kuhlman service, the couple came forward to receive the Way, the Truth, and the Life. They went on to have a tremendous influence on the community, reaching kids with the gospel.

I also recently heard the testimony of Mike Williams, a Christian comedian. When he was a boy, he was a street kid in the inner city of Chicago. There was one Christian person in his mom’s life– a mailman who would tell her something about God every day. One day, she told him that she wanted to give her last son a chance in life. She believed that the first step was to get him into a decent home. The mailman said he was too old, but his daughter and son-in-law had been praying 12 years for a child. So Mike went to live with them as their own child. He said, “It was really different in this home; these folks were Christians. They were Baptists, but they were Christians.” His dad was a Sunday school teacher, and he would “practice” on Mike in the car! One day, his dad said, “Mike, are you ready?” Mike said “Yes.” They pulled over, and Mike prayed to Jesus and asked him to come into his heart. Mike said, “That day, my life changed, and I have never gotten over it.”

How far are the reaches of the ordinary Christian! It seems I’ve heard a lot of stories about the influence of Christian mailmen, reaching people within the United States who have never been told about Jesus. For the mostpart, it’s a brief word from these Christian mailmen that reaches out to the lost and changes them and their world forever. And the lamp goes forth to change even more lives, to change eternity. What a beautiful thing, that God is glorified through humble folk such as the mailmen!
