Miss Szymanski: Yes! After I read this story for the first time, I bawled my guts out, and all I was left able to say was, "WOW! God, You are just so big!" Studying this story absolutely changed my life. I saw just a little bit more of that glory in the mirror. ;)

Carol: Yes, I saw the movie, too! I wish they had emphasized the presence of God in that situation more. I would have been puzzled at that scene, as well, had I not read this article first! The event happened so long ago, but God is still using it!

Jay: Yeah, that was my reaction, too! "How far am I willing to go for the gospel? What is there that I could not leave behind for the purpose that saved my own life?" For Jim Elliot and his companions, their death on that beach was not the first time they had to lay their lives down for the gospel. It took a lot to leave everything behind in reckless abandon for the glory of God. Thank God they did! Not only did they explain the gospel to the Indians, but to us over 50 years later!

How great is our God!

Hi Alice,
WOW! I've never ever heard this side to the story before. When I was watching the SSC video, my first thought was, "How far are we willing to go for the gospel?" I was especially inspired by Jim Elliot's quote: "He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose." AMAZING! What a terrific story that is!

This is so cool to read. I saw the movie and there was a scene showing bright light in the sky shining when Steve Saints' dad was dying. I tried to find out more about this scene to no avail. Your article filled in the blanks. Thanks for the info.

Nothing is impossible for God! His love shines forth decades later to touch many more hearts for Him through this story! I second it...God is so awesome!!
